People who start UDCA treatment early and show a good response within the first 6 months to 2 years typically have a better prognosis. In fact, those who achieve a complete response to UDCA can have a life expectancy similar to people without PBC. Being asymptomatic is also a positive indicator, as it often suggests early-stage disease. While UDCA can't cure PBC, it's effective in more than half of people with PBC and can significantly slow disease progression, particularly in early stages. Regular monitoring of your liver function tests will help track your response to treatment and guide any needed adjustments to your care plan.

There is no reason to start UDCA if your numbers are normal!! Don't do it, I pushed the Dr with this question, I said how will you know I'm improving from it if my numbers are perfect already, and he admitted that he would not know if it would be beneficial, so why are you prescribing another drug that costs $ and has side effects?? He agreed to wait until my liver started to progress, so I am on a 90 day blood test cycle and 7 years later only a glitch or 2 a year! I am 62, be mindful of the advice Dr give you they need you sick!!

But if your liver is stressed and numbers are out of range, take it!!
