Members responded with surprise and curiosity to someone scheduled for a transjugular liver biopsy through the neck, as most had only experienced the traditional approach through the ribs or abdomen. Several members shared that this newer technique is typically used for patients at higher risk of bleeding and involves a catheter guided through a vein to the liver under anesthesia, with one member's ex-husband having recently undergone the same procedure successfully. The original poster returned to share that the procedure went well though they experienced some neck and abdominal soreness afterward, met with supportive encouragement from the community.

I wondered too but he said its done by a radiologist under anesthesia and they go in a vein in the neck with a catheter feed it through the body using radiology imaging guidance down to the liver, get the sample for biopsy and then back out. He said more comfortable, less pain for the patient. Idk I've never had a liver biopsy.

I really don’t see how that would be possible. I have had a liver biopsy done and it was through upper abdomen. Going through vein doesn’t seem possible.

Hi Michele! I hope you're starting to feel better and the pain is subsiding. I'm sure that you would be sore after a biopsy no matter where they did it on your body. I hope that you get good results after all of this! We are all always here for you my friend!! Have a wonderful day and God bless 💗🌻

Hi Michele. Glad to hear that the biopsy went well. Have never heard of going that way for a liver sample. I'm sure that the pain will subside soon.

I had 2 biopsies of my liver. The first one in 1997 they went from my back. The second biopsy in 2017 they went from in front.
