Members responded to a question about whether hair dye and nail polish could be a risk factor for PBC, with most saying they had never heard of this connection before and expressing surprise at the information. Several members shared their personal experiences, including one whose aunt was a hairdresser who died young from liver cancer, while others noted they continue to use these products despite the concern, with one member finding reassurance in research suggesting these products don't make PBC progress faster. A recurring theme was acknowledgment of the many chemical exposures in daily life that may contribute to autoimmune diseases, balanced with personal choices about which risks feel manageable or worth taking.

I’ve never heard of this either. But I rarely in my life ever dyed my hair. And don’t do much nail polish. There are so many chemicals etc that we are exposed to that can contribute to autoimmune diseases

I have never heard of that. I used to be a manicurist. Will not stop coloring my hair and my fingernails look bad so I like to keep them polished.
