My Hepatologist said NA is fine, just to watch the sugars in it.. which I was blown away when I started looking at how many sugars an NA beer has, it is outrageous!
My best NA/low sugar find has been the brand, Recess. Really good taste and very low sugar.

Is it safe to drink Guinness once a week with PBC if blood pressure and liver tests are normal?
Even with normal blood pressure and liver tests, healthcare providers typically recommend avoiding alcohol or drinking only very moderate amounts when living with PBC. This is because the liver must process any alcohol you consume, which puts unnecessary stress on an already compromised organ.
The general guidance is:
- People with PBC should limit or avoid alcohol intake
- Those with PBC and cirrhosis should avoid alcohol entirely
- The extra burden of processing alcohol can cause further liver damage
Only your healthcare provider can assess your specific liver condition and determine whether any amount of alcohol is appropriate for you. They can help weigh the risks based on your individual health status and make the best recommendation for your situation.
It's important to discuss this directly with your doctor, even if your current tests look good, since PBC is a progressive condition that requires careful monitoring.
