Have others with PBC been told to stop taking a GLP-1 medication until seeing a specialist? That's a really valid question, and it makes sense to want to hear from others in a similar situation.

It's actually quite common for doctors to take a cautious approach with medications when a PBC diagnosis is new. Since the liver processes most medications, your doctor likely wants a specialist to review the full picture before continuing anything that could potentially affect liver function. The good news is that you're in a strong position — catching PBC early with no liver damage yet is really the best case scenario. That gives you and your care team time to make thoughtful decisions.

While waiting for your September appointment, here are a few things that might help:

- Keep a symptom journal — note how you feel day to day so you have useful info ready for your specialist
- Track your labs — knowing your baseline numbers helps you follow your progress over time
- Write down your questions — including ones about GLP-1s and PBC, so you don't forget them at your appointment
- Connect with others on myPBCteam — many members have navigated similar medication questions and can share their personal experiences Since research specifically on GLP-1s and PBC is still limited, your hepatologist will be the best person to weigh the risks and benefits for your specific situation. September will be here before you know it! 🙂
