Hi! My mom is in the process of getting on the Liver Transplant list at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA.

Does anyone have experience getting on medicare plus a medicare advantage plan in the midst of getting listed? I know I need to choose a few plans and then cross check them with the financial coordiantor, but does anyone have a plan that was really great that they liked that they want to share? The man selling her the medicare advantage plan has kind of been a dud; thank you in advance!

There should be an agency such as AREA agency on Aging that can help you . Also maybe go to Medicare.gov for comparisons.

What a great question, and it's wonderful that you're advocating so hard for your mom! πŸ’› While specific Medicare Advantage plan recommendations aren't something that can be offered here, there are some really helpful steps to navigate this process.

The transplant team at Piedmont will be a great resource. Liver transplant teams typically include specialists who can help, such as:

- Financial coordinators (which you're already connecting with β€” great move!)
- Social workers who often have deep knowledge of insurance navigation
- Case managers who can help match coverage to your mom's specific needs

A few additional tips:

- Ask the transplant center's financial coordinator specifically which Medicare Advantage plans they see work *best* for transplant patients at their facility
- Request a dedicated social worker from the transplant team β€” they deal with insurance questions constantly and can be incredibly helpful
- Consider getting a second opinion from an independent Medicare insurance broker (not one tied to a single plan)

The myPBCteam community may also have members who've been through this exact process and could share their personal experiences with plans that worked well for them.

You're doing all the right things β€” keep pushing! 🌟
