Are you wondering whether GLP-1 patches are safe or beneficial for people with PBC?

This is a great question, but GLP-1 patches aren't currently part of established PBC treatment guidelines, and there isn't enough specific research on their use in people with PBC to give a confident answer here.

Are you wondering whether GLP-1 patches are safe or beneficial for people with PBC?

This is a great question, but GLP-1 patches aren't currently part of established PBC treatment guidelines, and there isn't enough specific research on their use in people with PBC to give a confident answer here.

Since PBC affects the liver, it's really important to check with your hepatologist before adding any new medication or patch — even ones not directly related to liver treatment. The liver processes many substances, so anything new could potentially interact with your current PBC medications or affect liver enzymes. When speaking with your doctor, some helpful questions to ask might include:

- Could a GLP-1 patch affect my liver enzymes or ALP levels?
- Could it interact with my current PBC medications like UDCA or others?
- Are there any monitoring steps needed if I do use it?

Your hepatologist is really the best person to weigh the risks and benefits for your specific situation. Don't hesitate to bring it up at your next appointment!

Hey Ellen
That one would definitely be a question for my hepatologist. Not enough research on diabetics let alone us with PBC. The drugs are too new even thought they are approved.
