My gastro left and i dont know if i have pbc or not. i had a liver biopsy but they didnt test for that. i do have stage 3 fibrosis, my nashfibrosure score was 72 (74 is stage 4 cirrohsis). for 5 months after watching what i eat and going from 190 lbs to 140lbs, (little too much, but i eat like nothing) my second nash fibrosure was 60!!! if it was 58 i would of dropped to stage 2. My ast went from 78 to 21 and my alt went from 59 to 19. my alk phosphate is 87, my ama2 wetn from 479 to 346. They originally told me i have pbc , but i doubt if i actually do. I see a gastroenterologist who specializes in liver disease. He is excellent and has been in the field for 30 years. Before I found him, I had a hepatologist who unfortunately did not understand or know how to treat PBC with AIH overlap.
I would say- look at the experience the doctor has, if he or she specializes in our disease and of course someone you are comfortable with. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries, don’t be afraid to ask for a second opinion.
But hopefully you have found a doctor since you wrote your post!

My doctor for PBC is a Gastroenterologist. He prescribes Ursodiol and orders blood tests to be sure the medication is working. I hope you find one!
