Yes, muscle pain is a recognized side effect of cholesterol medications, particularly statins. Some people experience muscle soreness and fatigue when taking these medications.

Common side effects of statins include:
* Muscle soreness
* Fatigue or physical weakness
* Headache
* Dizziness
* Digestive issues

If you're taking a PCSK9 inhibitor (another type of cholesterol medication), you may also experience muscle soreness along with fatigue.

It's important to note that everyone tolerates cholesterol medications differently. If muscle pain or other side effects are affecting your daily life, talk to your doctor. They may adjust your dose or switch you to a different medication.

Since many medications are processed in the liver, it's especially important for people with PBC to work closely with both their general practitioner and hepatologist. Your hepatologist is best positioned to help you understand which medications are safe for your liver health while managing your cholesterol.

I was on Lipitor years ago and my legs cramped so much, and often, that it hurt to walk. my doctor took me off Lipitor and put me on a different medication and I've been fine since. My numbers are still coming in at 5.3, so he recently doubled the amount of medication and luckily, I've been able to tolerated it. He wants my results to come back 2.0 so I'll know in a month or two where I'm at with it then.

I know it's frustrating when you're trying so hard to make things better for yourself only to find out that they're not working for you. I'm sure that if he changes your medication you'll be fine as well. There are lots of other kinds of cholesterol lowering medication's out there. I have heard, as George mentioned, that if you have liver issues you shouldn't be on statins, but the overall benefits outweigh the effects on the liver. The thing about cholesterol is that it really doesn't make you feel sick, it's just how your body processes the food especially the fats. Of course, more fat in your body the higher your cholesterol so it is good the take the medication.

I was on statin for a month and a half and it caused me severe pain in my liver area. I went off of them and the pain went away. I had a fibroscan after to make sure I was ok and it showed I had advanced to stage 2 fibrosis.
