Can you drink alcohol with PBC and fatty liver?

It's best to avoid alcohol when you have PBC, especially if you also have fatty liver. Your liver is already working hard to manage PBC, and alcohol puts additional stress on it that can cause further damage.

Since your liver must process any alcohol you consume, drinking can worsen liver damage in people with PBC. If you have cirrhosis along with PBC, avoiding alcohol entirely is strongly recommended.

If you're not ready to quit completely, it's important to work on cutting back as much as possible. Talk with your healthcare provider about your specific situation - they can assess your liver condition and provide personalized guidance on whether any amount of alcohol might be safe for you.

Your provider can also offer support and strategies to help you reduce or eliminate alcohol from your diet, which will give your liver the best chance to function as well as possible.

My numbers were through the roof last blood work. I have not had a drink for over 2 months and numbers are going down. Myself I think a drink once in awhile would be nice. Maybe a couple times a year. I know I cannot drink like before and donnot have cirrhosis but do have pbc. Best to refrain from indulging alot. But do consult with dr
