The itching, burning and stinging can get out of control. I've tried over the counter drops and nothing seems to help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What eye drops work best for severe dry eyes with PBC?

Dry eyes are a common symptom with PBC, especially if you also have Sjögren's syndrome. Since over-the-counter drops haven't been helping, it's time to explore other options.

Here are some strategies that may provide relief:

* Ask your doctor about prescription eye drops - these may be more effective than OTC options
* Try using eye gels at nighttime for longer-lasting moisture
* Consider punctal occlusion - a simple procedure that blocks tear ducts to keep tears in your eyes longer for extra moisture

You can also protect your eyes throughout the day:

* Wear goggles or sunglasses outside to shield your eyes from wind, air, and dust
* If you wear contacts, talk to your eye doctor about brands better suited for dry eyes, or consider switching to glasses when symptoms are severe

Since your symptoms are severe with itching, burning, and stinging, it's really important to talk with your doctor or an eye specialist. They can evaluate whether prescription treatments or procedures like punctal occlusion might be right for you.

oh my gosh yes, I do!!! I do not have Sjogren's but most days my eyes are so dry they burn and feel sandy at night. Sometimes so red I wonder if I have an eye infection but I don't. I use plain saline drops. I've noticed it comes and goes. Since I have been monitoring, I am not sure if sunflower seeds, avocados or olive oil helped or more vitamin c. .?. When my vision get blurry I use Ocuvite.
