There's so much talk about alcohol these days - and how we were all misled about the "health benefits" for heart, brain, blah blah blah. Who has completely and totally stopped drinking alcohol here? I've been abstinate for 2+ years. I feel very good and my liver thanked me. Anyone else feel the same?

Yes, I crave a Hot buttered rum on a cold day. A nice glass of wine would be relaxing after a busy day.

Wonderful! Yes, I used to miss it too for the first few months then suddenly, in retrospect, I realised I had forgotten all about it... the missing had vanished while I was busy with other life things :D

I have quit drinking for about 4 months. I will be very honest, it is not what I wanted to do, however it is the best thing I have done. I was drinking daily and did not realize just how much it was controlling my life. I certainly feel better and I am glad that I have done it. I do miss the daily drinks however do not miss the way it made me feel. I am certainly a better person for it and hopefully it will continue help with my numbers ALP. They are very high, but have gone down since I stopped the alcohol. Good luck to you all.

Have you completely stopped drinking alcohol since your PBC diagnosis?

That's wonderful that you've been alcohol-free for over 2 years and are feeling the benefits! Your liver is definitely thanking you for it.

Avoiding alcohol is generally recommended when living with a chronic liver condition like PBC. Alcohol can make life harder for your liver in multiple ways:

- It adds extra stress to an already compromised liver
- It can cause dehydration, which may worsen PBC symptoms
- It can contribute to inflammation and further liver damage

Many people with PBC find that eliminating alcohol helps them feel better overall. The combination of reducing liver stress and staying better hydrated can make a noticeable difference in how you feel day-to-day.

If you're looking to connect with others who've made the same choice, sharing your experience on your Activities page could start some great conversations with members who understand exactly what you're going through. Two years is a significant milestone worth celebrating!
