A myPBCteam Member asked a question 💭

It's like my abdomen is "engaged" or active, not a painful or typical cramping feeling. This happens on & off throughout the day, mostly after I eat & take the medicine. It's worse when I try to sleep/lay down.

I've only been on ursodiol for a week and hope this is just the adjustment phase. Have asked my dr. but hoping for other input until I can get answers. Thanks!

Thanks. Not quite like that for me, but good to know.

Yes. I take Vitafusion Fiber Well gummies to help keep me regular. When it's really bad I take half a dose of miralax too. The bloating usually accompanies a sense of urgency to go the bathroom.

Has anyone on ursodiol felt super bloated and uncomfortable?

Yes, you're definitely not alone in experiencing bloating with ursodiol. Many myPBCteam members have reported similar issues. One member described experiencing "extreme bloating" on 1,000 mg of Urso, saying they looked "five months pregnant." Another member simply noted "lots of gas with ursodiol."

The bloating and abdominal discomfort you're describing, especially after eating and taking the medication, is a known side effect that some people experience. Since you've only been on it for a week, your body may still be adjusting to the medication. Some members have found helpful strategies to manage digestive side effects. One myPBCteam member switched to taking ursodiol at night, which helped reduce symptoms. They also noticed that avoiding high-fat foods made a difference.

Common side effects of ursodiol that can affect your digestive system include:
* Stomach pain
* Indigestion
* Nausea
* Changes in stool
* Loss of appetite

Since your symptoms are worse when lying down and happen throughout the day, it's good that you've already contacted your doctor. They can help determine if this is a temporary adjustment period or if any modifications to your treatment approach might help.
