I was diagnosed with PBC about 1.5 years ago and have responded very well to URSO. All liver labs now within normal ranges. However, my cholesterol started rising about 2 years ago. I read that pts. with PBC also have Lipoprotein X which can be mistaken for high cholesterol and high LDL's. I watch my diet closely. Leafy veggies, lots of salmon, minimal sat. fats. I don't want to add statins to my med. regime. Any input is most appreciated.
Yes best is to get your Dr to do the ApoB100 test instead of a normal cholesterol panel as it shows you what the real data is without the ‘noise’ of the lipoprotein X getting in the way and making your numbers unreliable. Many GP Drs don’t seem to know this so you got to be confident and educate them and get what you need!
Thank you. Heading to pcp this morning and feeling well prepared.
It's great to hear URSO is working so well for you! Your instinct about lipoprotein X is spot-on. People with PBC can have this unique form of cholesterol that doesn't behave like typical LDL or HDL — and importantly, it can throw off standard cholesterol test results, making cholesterol appear higher than it functionally Show Full Answer
