I have horrible headaches every morning for a long time prior to my diagnosis. They have been worse lately however. My Dr started low dose Amitriptyline but I was basically a zombie- Now she wants to try propranolol but said I really have to watch my blood pressure and heart rate as it lowers it and mine is already low!

That sounds really exhausting — dealing with worsening headaches on top of everything else that comes with PBC is a lot to manage. It's completely understandable to feel cautious about trying another medication after the Amitriptyline experience.

Propranolol is a beta-blocker, and your doctor is right to flag the blood pressure and heart rate concern. Since yours is already on the lower side, close monitoring is especially important. Some things worth discussing with your doctor include:

- Starting at the lowest possible dose to see how your body responds
- Checking your blood pressure and heart rate regularly at home with a monitor
- Knowing the warning signs to watch for, like dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting
- Having a clear plan for what to do if your readings drop too low It's also worth mentioning that fatigue is already a common symptom of PBC, and beta-blockers can sometimes add to that tiredness — so that's another thing to keep an eye on.

Sharing your concerns openly with your doctor before starting is really the best move here. You had a rough experience with Amitriptyline, and it's completely reasonable to ask questions and set clear check-in points before committing to a new medication.
