Update - PBC Foundation pbc medical specialist Dr Martin Weltman said no evidence to support CoQ10 as beneficial.
I have posed a question about this for Professor David Jones at an online Q and A, I will report back and share what he says.
Both myself and my partner are taking CoQ10. He has had ongoing peridontial/gum issues for the last 3 years with no resolution. I found a couple of studies linking CoQ10 administration (200mg over 12 weeks) to improved gum/peridontal health. One month after using the CoQ10 his gums are the best that they've ever been (no more abscesses, bleeding while flossing, inflammation, etc). It's wild how quickly that started. I did have him draw a baseline prior to supplementation and in the US he was within conventional "normal" values however functional medicine providers want you to be higher. It is a master antioxidant that also supports mitochondrial health and I think there are more we don't know about it. It was studied extensively in cardiac health as Vicki said but it also has implications for many other settings.
