I take Wagovy. I have had success with it and it also lowered the fatty liver as well. I had good results with it.

I take Mounjaro for diabetes. My gastrointestinal doctor was very happy as it is proving to be beneficial to the liver.

GLP-1 medications are definitely worth discussing with your doctor, especially since managing weight can be an important part of overall health with PBC. While there isn't specific data from the PBC community on this topic in the current search results, here are some helpful things to bring up at your appointment:

- Current medications — Let your doctor know everything you're taking, including PBC treatments like ursodiol, so they can check for any interactions
- Liver function — Your doctor will likely want to review your recent liver blood tests (ALT, AST, bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase) before starting anything new
- Nutrient absorption — PBC can already affect how your body absorbs certain nutrients, so it's worth discussing whether a new medication could impact that
- Side effects — Ask specifically how a GLP-1 might affect your liver and whether it's appropriate given your stage of PBC

Going into the appointment with these questions ready will help you have a really productive conversation. Your liver specialist or hepatologist would be the best person to guide this decision alongside your primary care doctor.

This has been written about by Professor David Jones in one of the PBC Foundations recent ‘Bear Facts’ newsletters. Why not email them and ask for a digital copy of the relevant issue?
