Members responded to the question about weight gain on URSO with a wide range of experiences, from gaining 15 to 20 pounds to losing weight or staying the same. Several members noted that fatigue, stress, and how URSO may change how the liver processes fat and cholesterol could all play a role in weight changes. A recurring theme was taking an active role in managing health through healthier eating, staying as active as possible, and advocating for oneself when doctors seem unfamiliar with PBC-related concerns.

I may have gained a little weight when I first started Urso last year. It worried me to have entered the "obese" category when calculating BMI. So in early Spring, I cut out most of my sugars, no more creamer in my coffee - only use milk now - and have cut my meal portions by about a third, also focus on healthier eating such as increasing foods such as salmon, sardines, vegetables and fruit. I also have increased my activity and played pickleball 2-3 hrs four mornings a week. Now that it is cold out, I play indoor table tennis that same amount of time and one sunny morning a week I play pickleball in the cold. All this has helped me lose 10 lbs since springtime. The battle continues and at times it is difficult to get out of bed due to tiredness, but motivation to remain as healthy as possible succeeds. Best to everyone on your journey.

I have gained a little since starting Ursodiol. Im really trying to be active and watch what I eat. But cravings are so powerful when I am stressed. I read that Ursodiol changes how the liver process fat and cholesterol. Perhaps that's the reason foe weight gain.

When I went to my Gasteronogist, I ask him if I should watch what I eat and his answer was no. I don't think he really knows much about PBC

I have! I started Urso in June and I’ve gained 15 pounds. I’m on Mounjaro for diabetes and never had trouble maintaining weight before. I thought it might be from fatigue as I’m not moving as much.
