A positive ANA result can absolutely be associated with PBC — it shows up in roughly 70% of PBC cases. So while it's not the only marker doctors look for, it's definitely not unusual to see it come up.

A positive ANA result can absolutely be associated with PBC — it shows up in roughly 70% of PBC cases. So while it's not the only marker doctors look for, it's definitely not unusual to see it come up.

The nuclear dot pattern you're describing is actually one of the more specific ANA patterns linked to PBC, which makes it worth taking seriously. That said, a PBC diagnosis isn't made on ANA alone. Doctors typically need at least two of the following three criteria to confirm it:

- Elevated alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels at 1.5x or more above normal
- Presence of antimitochondrial antibodies (AMA) at a titer of 1:40 or higher
- A liver biopsy showing PBC-related damage

Since you also have RA, which is a known comorbidity of PBC, it's really important to follow up with your doctor — ideally a hepatologist. They may want to check your ALP levels and test for AMA to get a clearer picture.

The good news is that catching things early gives you the best options for managing your health going forward.

Antibodies are proteins that your immune system makes to fight foreign substances like viruses & bacteria. ANAs are anti-nuclear antibodies & attack healthy cells instead.... attack the nucleus of cells. A few are ok but alot (high) signals autoimmune system. So the bigger that #(positive) ...is heading to a red flag to keep an eye on things with labs.
