I read green tea supplements and milk thistle should be avoided as can cause toxicity issues.
Drink green tea no problem but don’t take any green tea supplements.

When it comes to PBC specifically, the evidence for herbal supplements is limited. However, here are some that have been studied in relation to liver health:
Milk Thistle
Research hasn't shown strong evidence that milk thistle is helpful for liver conditions, and it may interfere with medications for cholesterol or liver disease. It can also cause stomach upset.
Green Tea
Some studies suggest green tea may help lower liver enzyme levels, reduce fatigue, and lower cholesterol — all relevant concerns for people with PBC. However, green tea *supplements* (not the beverage) carry a higher risk of liver injury, which is a serious concern when you already have PBC.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
While not an herb, omega-3s from fish oil or fatty fish may help reduce liver fat and inflammation. Just note that high doses can thin the blood, especially if you're on blood thinners. The bottom line — none of these have been studied extensively *specifically* for PBC, so it's really important to check with your healthcare provider before starting any supplement. What helps in general liver health research doesn't always translate directly to PBC, and some supplements can actually strain the liver or interact with your medications.

My GI said to avoid supplements unless authorized by her because they can be toxic to our liver. Black coffee and teas are great for the liver but need to be brewed.
