You're definitely not alone in this! Random, unexplained bruising is something others with PBC experience too. One myPBCteam member asked, "Does anyone else have very delicate skin that bruises and tears easily?" — and another replied, "You're not alone. I have bruising as well, along with easily tearing skin. Most times, I have no idea how I did it." There are a few reasons why PBC can make you more prone to mysterious bruises:

- Poor Vitamin K absorption — Damaged bile ducts can reduce your body's ability to absorb Vitamin K, which is essential for blood clotting and skin health
- Scratching from itching — Frequent scratching can break tiny blood vessels under the skin, causing bruising
- Cirrhosis — As PBC progresses, liver scarring can interfere with normal clotting function
- Portal hypertension — Increased blood pressure in the liver's portal vein can also lead to easier bruising
- Medications — Some medications, including common over-the-counter ones like ibuprofen or aspirin, can increase bruising risk It's worth mentioning this to your hepatologist, especially if the bruising seems to be getting worse. They can check your vitamin levels and rule out any complications. In the meantime, keeping your skin moisturized and protected can help.

Yes, I get bruises and suddenly out of nowhere I have spider veins all over my lègs. I had a bout of swelling, but it resolved fast. These spider veins a6re ugĺy! I've never had in in my life!! At first I thought maybe this was a misdiagnosis, but no, I am convinced it's PBC. i prayed it wasn't. Who wants a disease that is not survivable? No cure? It really scared me.
