While alternative therapies like red light therapy, acupuncture, and castor oil packs aren't mentioned in standard PBC treatment protocols, it's positive that you're discussing these options with your doctor. The main approved treatments for PBC focus on medications like ursodiol, obeticholic acid, and the newly approved elafibranor to help preserve liver function and delay disease progression. If you're interested in exploring complementary therapies, it's important to continue working closely with your healthcare team. Keep them informed of any alternative treatments you're considering or using. They can help monitor your liver function and ensure these therapies don't interfere with your primary PBC treatment plan. Remember to track your symptoms and maintain open communication with your doctor about how you're feeling with any new treatments you try.
