Members connected over the surprising symptom of constant hunger despite having just eaten, with many wondering if it stems from PBC itself or the medications used to manage it. Several members shared practical strategies including eating smaller frequent meals throughout the day, prioritizing protein intake of 90-120 grams daily, avoiding seed oils, and considering medications like Mounjaro that help control appetite while supporting liver health. A recurring theme was the complex relationship with food that PBC creates, where some members battle persistent hunger and weight gain while others struggle with decreased appetite and unintended weight loss, all while trying to maintain proper nutrition to support liver function.

Eating only fruits and vegetables is a malnutrition bomb that will definitely have rapid effects on your pbc.
Increase protein intake as much as possible 90-120 a day!
Meats, or pea protein drinks help a lot here.
Whatever it takes.
I advise as someone who has undergone a liver transplant already to do this.
The stronger you are going in to surgery the faster you will heal and get out.
Most people can be in hospital for up to two months after.
I was out in 8 days and have a “light” medication list. 25 pills if you can believe thats light!
Good luck

I am glad to hear that getting hungry after meals is not that unusual!
I couldn't nderstand why I am always hungry...I never had been before! I am continuing to lose weight, it is scary for me but I guess eating mostly vegetables is a good thing. ..I have always been over my recommended weight and watched what I ate. I had stopped eating wheat/gluten (also rye, barley, grains, etc.) for my arthritis and have cut way back on fat because hard on liver.

I saw my doctor this morning and he’s glad that I’m on mounjaro for my diabetes. He said it is being approved for liver. You might check to see if it’s something you could use. It will help with hunger and weight.
