It sounds like you're managing quite a few conditions alongside your PBC. It's actually pretty common for people with PBC to have other autoimmune conditions at the same time.
Many people with PBC experience multiple autoimmune conditions together. Studies show that about 55% of people with PBC have another autoimmune Show Full Answer
Thank you for sharing. Yes, I have quite a few autoimmune diseases. Diabetes is a hard one to control especially type 1. I've been on insulin for about 40 years and with all this new stuff my sugar levels have been up and down like a yo-yo. My endocrinologist didn't like that cause I was having too many lows so she 'd rather I run a little bit high. We've decreased my insulin, doses and now I'm running between 16 and 18 where I should really be between 4 amd 8. I'm happy with 10. I think we're going to have to increase it again and see what happens. I started on urdisiol right after my biopsies. We were expecting to find a result of celiac because my liver enzymes had such a high reading, but that wasn't the case.. instead, he found Grace 1 Varices, which is most often caused by cirrhosis. Instead of the previous diagnosis based on my liver biopsy, which showed consistent mainly with stage 11. I'll be expecting to hear that I have more advanced PBC than we previously thought. I'm ju basing this on the pathology report which I haven't discussed with my doctor yet. It shows in my Alberta chart. We will see and I will deal with it then. I have to get more blood work done in about a week to see where my liver enzyme levels are at that point. I'm thinking that will determine a plan of action. They may increase my medication or add additional medicine to the regimen. I'm just tired of feeling tired and sick and I want someone to help me. My gastroenterologist is awesome so I am thinking he will send me to a hepatologist to determine how to treat all these autoimmune diseases together. I'm not looking for pity. It frustrates me that I had to wait 17 months to see a specialist, then another two months to get in for the biopsies. Now it will probably take a year to see a hepatologist, so I could be dead by then. I'm not being negative, just factual. I'm being positive in the hopes they will fast track me to see the liver specialist. Fingers crossed!!!
