The liver has an amazing quality. It can regenerate itself. Damage can be reversed. Last May my numbers were indicating cirrhosis. I was diagnosed in June. I started watching what I eat avoiding fatty foods and taking milk thistle supplement. Not the ones for liver with the oils in them just milk thistle. In October my scan showed a healthy liver. The gall bladder and spleen can’t do this but it’s possible to live without them. I believe PBC destroyed my gall bladder 14 years ago. I had anomalies on liver numbers for a long time. Finally this past year more tests were ordered and that showed AMA antibodies. Proof positive for PBC. It’s auto immune so it can be relapsing remitting allowing the liver to heal when it’s not being attacked. It can be progressive constant attacks. That doesn’t allow the liver to heal. Only time and past experience can tell you which one you are. My immune system could go bonkers tomorrow and start attacking and not stopping. We just never know it’s very uncertain and long term prognosis is therefore uncertain. Take time for the things that make you happy. Enjoy the time you have as best you can. Rest on bad days. Do things on good days. It’s all we can do.
