Hot flashes aren't typically listed as a primary PBC symptom, but your doctor may be right that they could be related to your condition. PBC can affect your body in various ways, and some symptoms may be less common or not well understood yet.
The severe fatigue you're experiencing is one of the most common PBC symptoms. About 50 percent of people with PBC experience fatigue, and 20 percent have severe fatigue that significantly affects quality of life. As you've discovered, this exhaustion doesn't always improve with rest and can be debilitating.
You're doing the right thing by listening to your body and resting when needed. Here are some strategies that may help:
* Continue your walks when possible, as gentle activity can help with energy
* Pace yourself and avoid overexertion on good days to prevent crashes the next day
* Try eating smaller, more frequent meals instead of large ones
* Focus on whole foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins
* Consider foods rich in B vitamins, iron, and fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) which can support energy levels
Since URSO isn't helping your symptoms yet, stay in close communication with your doctor. They can monitor your liver function and discuss whether additional treatments might help manage your fatigue and other symptoms.
