If you have PBC and a dry mouth it may NOT be related to PBC but you could have another autoimmune disorder called sjogrens. You might also have dry eyes. That’s my history exactly. .

Waking up with a sore throat is something many people with PBC can relate to! It can actually be a symptom of dry mouth, which is a known complication of PBC.

When there isn't enough saliva to keep the mouth and throat moist overnight, a persistent sore throat can develop. Other signs that dry mouth might be the culprit include:

- Increased thirst
- Bad breath
- Sores on the tongue, lips, or inside the mouth
- Trouble eating, swallowing, or tasting

The good news is there are some over-the-counter options that may help. Saliva substitutes, like Biotene Dry Mouth or Mouth Kote, can provide relief. Look for products containing xylitol or hydroxyethyl cellulose on the label.

One caution — xylitol can cause stomach cramping or diarrhea in some people, so it's worth starting slowly. Always check with a doctor before trying new products, as some remedies could interact with PBC management.
