I was wondering if anybody else has trouble processing beef.
I’ve found that it will be very slow and in my stomach for days. I get nausea if I eat it and have upper right stomach pain.
Just wondering?

I avoid all red meat, pork, sausages and deli meats entirely. I stick to fish and chicken.

I can't eat beef either. I get really sick to my stomach and really bad pains in my stomach to the point I'm curled up in bed hurting for hours to days

My Dr told me no red meat... not that I was a big meat eater too begin with, but just being told you shouldn't eat a certain food item makes you want it all the more!! Lol

Trouble digesting beef — especially fatty cuts — is something many people with PBC can relate to. Here's why it happens:

PBC damages the bile ducts, which means less bile reaches your intestines. Bile is essential for breaking down fat, and beef (especially fattier cuts) is high in fat. Without enough bile, fat digestion slows way down, which can cause:

- Nausea
- Bloating and that heavy "food just sitting there" feeling
- Upper right abdominal pain
- Diarrhea or stomach cramps A myPBCteam member shared something similar, saying their stomach "workings" went crazy after diagnosis, experiencing gas pains, bloating, and heartburn that weren't there before.

Some things that may help:

- Try leaner cuts of beef or smaller portions
- Eat smaller meals more frequently rather than large ones
- Keep a food diary to track which foods trigger symptoms
- Talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian — they can help tailor a plan for you

The upper right pain is worth mentioning to your doctor too, as it can be related to liver inflammation from PBC. Don't just chalk it up to the beef! 🐄
