That's a fantastic share — thank you! Dr. Mark Swain is a well-regarded hepatologist, and a deep dive into PBC-related fatigue from a specialist is genuinely valuable.

Fatigue is one of the most common and frustrating symptoms of PBC, affecting around 65% of people with the condition. What makes it tricky is that it doesn't always match how severe the disease is — you can have mild PBC and still experience significant fatigue.

There are generally two types of PBC-related fatigue worth understanding:

- Central fatigue — linked to the brain and nervous system, often showing up as brain fog, lack of motivation, and sleep disturbances
- Peripheral fatigue — originating outside the brain, often felt as muscle weakness or a "lack of ability"

Some practical strategies that members of myPBCteam have found helpful include:

- Short 20-minute naps during the day
- Regular gentle exercise like walking
- Light therapy in the mornings
- Reviewing medications with a doctor, as some can worsen fatigue
- Checking for nutrient deficiencies and thyroid issues, which are common alongside PBC

Always talk to your doctor before making changes, especially around exercise or diet, as PBC can affect what's safe for you.
