Dry mouth is actually a very common symptom for people living with PBC, so you're definitely not alone in experiencing this. That said, 11 months is a long time to be dealing with it, and it's worth talking to your doctor to get to the bottom of what's causing it. There are a few possible reasons why dry mouth can occur with PBC:

- Sjögren's disease — This autoimmune condition affects about one-third of people with PBC and directly attacks the moisture-producing glands, including salivary glands
- PBC itself — Liver-related changes can reduce saliva production
- Medications — Over 100 drugs can cause dry mouth, including some antidepressants and pain medications that people with PBC may take While waiting to see your doctor, there are some things that may help ease the discomfort:

- Sip water throughout the day
- Chew sugar-free gum or suck on sugar-free hard candies
- Try over-the-counter saliva substitutes (look for xylitol or hydroxyethyl cellulose on the label)
- Use a humidifier at night
- Avoid caffeine and alcohol, which can worsen dryness
- Use alcohol-free mouthwash

It's also worth keeping up with regular dental visits, as prolonged dry mouth can increase the risk of tooth decay.
